Merrick Kiwanis Club host Scrabble tourney

Merrick Life 7/30/2009

Forty-four fifth and sixth graders from schools in Merrick and North Merrick faced off in a battle of words at the fourth annual Merrick Kiwanis School Scrabble Tournament, co-sponsored by the Merrick Herald, which took place recently at the North Merrick Library.

The students competed in timed rounds against teams from the same grade from other schools.  Trophies went to fifth graders Harshal Patel and Aggie Lesser (Progressive School of Long Island) for first place and high game; Nicole Fegan and Ryan Biggs (Levy-Lakeside) for second place; and Paulina Fein and Rayna Katz (Progressive School of Long Island) for third place.

All the students received certificates of participation and School Scrabble Tournament T-shirts.

In a letter to Kiwanis, the Lakeside Scrabble Club wrote, “We had a lot of fun!  It was great playing against other schools.  We can’t wait to come back next year.”
