K: Amanda Watkins

This is Ms. Amanda’s fifth year at Progressive. She has always wanted to work with children and that ambition shines through in all of her interactions with her students. Amanda has earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education from CUNY Queen’s College. She is also certified as an Elementary and Special Education teacher, having graduated SUNY Old Westbury.

Amanda lives in Merrick. She has worked nearby at TLC Daycare, and also as a permanent substitute and Leave Replacement for the East Meadow School District. When Amanda isn’t teaching, she enjoys spending time with her lovable dog Theo, being outdoors (especially at the beach), cooking, drawing/painting, listening to music, practicing yoga, hiking, kayaking, watching movies, and spending time with her family and friends.

Here at Progressive School, we believe that children are active learners. We provide our students with a variety of opportunities, new ideas and experiences to help them to be empowered, competent and successful in school. Ms. Amanda embodies that philosophy. She works hard to use a creative, hands-on approach to learning while taking the time to listen to and value all of her students. Our Kindergarten environment is safe, supportive, and welcoming. Ms. Amanda plays a vital role in that atmosphere by taking pride in making sure each and every child is encouraged and guided during these important foundational years.
