February 26

February is here! K-2 Like January, February will continue to musically follow the winter season. Songs about the clothes we wear, foods we eat, friends and people we love and the sports we play, will all be shared. Our hibernating friend, “Mr. Bruce the Bear”, will be making several guest appearances as well. 3-4 Black history month will be celebrated throughout February. The students will be listening to artists who have had a significant impact on our culture. The music of Armstrong, Fitzgerald, Ellington and a lot of other wonderful artists will be appreciated and enjoyed. 5-6 The students will be researching and presenting on an influential African American entertainer. Their presentations are not meant to be just reported facts but a brief summary and informal presentation, highlighting the artist’s career. 7-8 MS Our middle schoolers are doing the same as the 5th and 6th graders. Presenting individually, students will be demonstrating in a similar fashion. We continue to work on music for the end of the year and their MS play. Coda NYSSMA registration forms will be provided this week. Recorder classes continue on Friday’s.  Here’s the music: 5-6 Electives During Friday’s lunchtime, we have rebooted ukulele and chorus sessions. All are welcome. Breakfast Band We had 18 players this past Friday and we have never been larger. All are welcome. Rock Band We will be starting up again in the early part of March.

January 26

Happy New Year 2026! Thank you to all of those who were able to attend and be a part of our Winter Concert. The responses, videos, support and feedback were wonderful to see and hear. The kids exceeded expectations and I thought the engagement of all attendees was joyous and heartfelt! Now on to A New Year, 2026! K-2 January will focus on the change in seasons and what changes the winter season brings. Songs about how we dress, what we do differently outside, and comforting melodies about our hibernating animal friends will be shared. 3-4 We will continue learning our notes and rhythms. Dynamics and honing our listening skills as we open our ears to different genres of music will be shared throughout the semester. Recorder classes will continue and be more challenging, as we move on to more complex pieces. I greatly encourage all parents to remind the kids to practice at home when they can. Musical pieces will continue to be available on the school website. 5-6 The upper grades will be asked to make a choice between researching a musical composer or working with another student to research a musical tandem that has had an impact on our culture. Electives will be starting again and the students will have a chance to play ukulele, guitar, drums or be a part of a chorus. 7-8 As mentioned before, we will be working on the same project as the 5th and 6th grades to start the semester. More details will be shared with them as we proceed. Of course, we will begin working on developing our songs for the moving up day ceremonies at the end of the school year. CODA: Breakfast band starts the first Friday we are back, January 9th. NYSSMA dates will be announced within the next few weeks. Parents please be on the lookout for these communications. Rock Band: We will surely be starting up again but I don’t have a new starting date for the semester as of yet. Once again, a giant thank you to all of the performers at the Winter Concert
